The Story

SEC — an electrical contractor specializing in the construction and maintenance of electric transmission, distribution, and substation systems — went looking for a platform to bring all fleet and warehouse operations into one place.

The Challenge

Eleven systems. Twenty manual steps. Whiteboards and paper.

SEC had been performing work orders, warehouse, logistics, and driver dispatch manually — with whiteboards, paper forms, and software that was ill-equipped for the job. What they wanted was a single central location for every rented and owned asset, plus tools, and a true development partner.

  • 0111 separate software applications
  • 0220+ manual steps across maintenance, work orders, call-offs & logistics
  • 03Asset-assignment accuracy at just 45%
  • 04Hours lost to daily documentation
How It Started
“YARDZ came to us pitching the rental aspect of their tool, where they actually track all your rentals from all your suppliers. The platform gave us notifications when rental periods were over, so we didn’t have equipment hanging around when a job was complete — which helped reduce our overall rental spend.” Richie Gasaway — Vice President of Fleet & Services, SEC

After seeing the potential, SEC asked YARDZ CEO Jason Perez to add functionality around work orders, warehouse, logistics, and driver dispatch. SEC participated intimately in the design through YARDZ’s customer-voice development process — and the result was the ability to automate and create efficiencies across a range of fleet, equipment, and internal functions. What began as a regional pilot became a comprehensive, company-wide initiative on the Enterprise Plus plan.

Capabilities to Spare

Built around exactly how SEC works.

“The ability to document the entire lifecycle of an asset in one place — photos, repairs, telematics, financials, utilization, idle-time reporting, and replacement — gave us a single view to accurately budget our equipment refresh.”

Asset Assignment · Accuracy

Asset-assignment accuracy, up from 45%.

By standardizing how assets are assigned across regions and business units, SEC raised overall asset-assignment accuracy from 45% to an eye-popping 95% — standardized data for headquarters, with unique workflows preserved at the regional level.

The Impact

From big data to usable data.

YARDZ built rental intelligence into the platform using logic and regression analysis to convert bad data into good. On the rental side, analyzing SEC’s Net Rate Variance identified $140,000 in rate overages over three years.

Integration with SEC’s BI tool and telematics/GPS provider associates corporate data down to the lowest variable — turning big data into usable data that drives behavior change at the source, across regions, divisions, projects, and people.

“YARDZ worked hard to incorporate our specific way of doing business. We were able to maintain tight control with the core program right away.”

Richie Gasaway, Vice President of Fleet & Services

“I was able to say to YARDZ, ‘This is my vision, this is what I’m looking for.’ And they took my vision and made it a reality.”

The Rollout

Patience, timing, and careful product vetting.

This implementation didn’t happen overnight. It began in SEC’s Florida office and grew, step by deliberate step, into a company-wide standard.

1
Florida office

Rental management first

SEC’s Florida region began using YARDZ to manage its extensive fleet and equipment inventory, tracking rentals across suppliers.

2
Co-design

Customer-voice buildout

SEC worked with CEO Jason Perez to design work orders, warehouse, logistics, and dispatch features around how the company actually operates.

3
Soft rollout

Maintenance, then dispatch

About two months after the buildout, Florida adopted equipment maintenance, then logistics and dispatch, then full inspections and dispatch.

4
Company-wide

Enterprise Plus

Satisfaction led SEC to Enterprise Plus — unlimited users, assets, and projects — turning a regional pilot into a company-wide initiative.
